North Country Leisure is one of a growing number of charitable leisure management organisations in the United Kingdom.  We are a not for profit organisation working for the benefit of the community and also a registered charity, which means that any surplus income generated must be reinvested in improving the facilities and services we offer.

Established in 1998 we started operation on 1st May 1999 as Leisure Tynedale to manage the leisure services previously operated by Tynedale Council.  From April 2003 we took on the operation of Alnwick District Council’s leisure services and from April 2006 Copeland Borough Council’s main leisure centres. Northumberland Football Partnership came under our management in August 2007, operating children’s football coaching and schools football schemes across Northumberland and Cumbria.  We work very closely with Alnwick, Tynedale and Copeland Councils as significant funding partners in providing services to the community.

The Management Boards of all 3 areas are drawn from the local community to ensure we have local people managing local services.  Some members are also trustees of the charity and take part in the overall management.

We aim to provide ‘excellent Sports and Leisure for all’ and believe that our charitable status and the involvement of the community through our Board of Directors help us to achieve this.
